Read QC Photos Without Guessing

Photos can help you compare shape, measurements and construction, but they can also hide details through lighting, angle and compression.

Decide what the photos need to show before you start zooming in. Check that they match the row, cover the important sides, include readable measurements where needed and show the option you are considering. If a key view is missing, name it instead of guessing.

Choose the question before you zoom in

“Does it look good?” is too vague. Ask something that could change your choice: Is the insole measurement long enough? Will the bag interior hold what you carry? Does the jacket photo show the lining described on the page?

That question tells you which views matter. A large gallery is not helpful when every photo avoids the area you need to see.

Check five things in this order

Write what you see before deciding what it means

Describe the photo

“The left seam appears higher in the rear view” is something another person can look at and check.

Keep the explanation tentative

“This may be the camera angle or fabric tension” avoids turning a possible cause into a fact.

Ask for one useful view

“A flat rear photo would make the seam easier to judge” gives you a specific next step.

Avoid certainty words when the image cannot support them. Use “visible,” “appears,” “unclear” and “not shown” precisely. A photograph can support an observation without explaining the cause.

Measurement photos need their own check

  • Confirm the unit is visible rather than inferred from a familiar ruler.
  • Check the start and end points and whether the object is stretched, curved or folded.
  • For garments, name the measured point: chest width, length, shoulder, sleeve, waist, rise or inseam.
  • For footwear, do not treat a printed size and a measured internal length as interchangeable.
  • For bags, keep width, height, depth and strap length as separate fields.
  • When perspective makes a reading uncertain, record a range or mark it unreadable instead of choosing a number.

Notice camera and lighting limits

White balance can shift color, reflections can hide surface details, wide lenses can exaggerate nearby edges and compression can create false sharpness. Compare several images before recording a color or alignment concern. Consistency across views is more useful than one dramatic close-up.

Compare two photo sets by what they answer

When two candidates have different numbers of images, do not reward the larger gallery automatically. Create a short list of decision questions and mark whether each set answers them clearly, partly or not at all.

The better set is the one that answers your important question, not the one with the most files. If both sets miss the same deal-breaker, choose a better documented row instead of debating two weak galleries.
